Key points

  • Stream bills on two dimensions only: minutes of video stored and minutes of video delivered, the same way for on-demand and live video. Ingress and encoding are free, and bandwidth is included in delivered minutes.
  • Storage is prepaid in increments of $5 per month per 1,000 minutes and is consumed by uploaded originals, live recordings over RTMP or SRT, and the reserved maxDurationSeconds of unfinished Direct Creator and TUS uploads until they complete or expire. If storage runs out, you cannot upload new videos or start new live streams until you buy more or delete videos; Enterprise customers may continue beyond their quota.
  • Delivery is post-paid at $1 per 1,000 minutes and is counted by HTTP requests for video segments: client-side preloading and buffering are billable, playback from the browser cache is not, and some mobile player libraries do not cache HLS segments by default. Web playback is rounded to the segment length (four seconds for uploaded content; for live, the keyframe interval of the broadcast).
  • A live broadcast with no viewers costs $0 in delivered minutes, but its recording counts toward stored minutes until deleted. WebRTC (WHEP) playback, MP4 downloads (billed by the percentage of the file delivered) and SRT or RTMP simulcast outputs also count as delivery.
  • Media Transformations share Images’ pricing: $0.50 per 1,000 monthly unique transformations with 5,000 free; a video output counts one transformation per second of output. Through the Workers binding, operations are not billed during the beta, but afterwards every operation will be billed individually rather than once per unique transformation, so the page recommends caching or storing results.

sylwair: nearly $900 of usage in under two days after a project mistake.

@sylwair says a recent project mistake ran up nearly $900 in less than two days. He says he spotted it in Cloudflare's billable-usage view and stopped the abnormal service, and in a reply adds that the daily billing figures appeared with a delay, so the amount did not visibly drop after he stopped it.
